The Eastern province is very much engaged in the ministry of education as it is a most important strategy for the empowerment of people. The sisters have 7 schools (2 High Schools and 5 middle schools) and many are teaching in diocesan managed schools too. 48 sisters of the province are engaged in the education ministry. The sisters, along with imparting education to the children also form their character. They conduct many activities to develop the innate talents of the children. They also teach the children value education. The sisters are also managing 7 boarding homes for girls in the rural areas housing 475 girl children. These boarding homes are for poor girl children and those who live in distant geographical proximity from the schools. These homes offer them ample opportunities to study and to develop their personality. The sisters are also running a school for the blind and the deaf to serve the differently able children. It is a beautiful ministry but needs experts in the field.
EDUCATION MINISTRY
Promotion of education is one of the basic steps towards an integrated human society. Education is a means to drive away many of the social evils found in our society at large and thereby paving the path for a better life situation.
This becomes more relevant in the interior parts of Chhottanagpur Region where literacy rate has been very low. Therefore, our Province has been engaged in the ministry of educating the young children and thereby bringing about qualitative changes in the life style of the people for better.
Today it is the primary apostolate of our Province at Mahugaon, Bara Ghaghara, Garhwa. We also offer our services in this ministry managed by the dioceses at Chanho, Gumla, Purnea, Bindhaintoli, Biharsharif, Kudra, Bargawa, Wadrafnagar. One third of the sisters in the province are engaged in this sacred ministry. Through this ministry we aim to inculcate in the young minds spiritual and moral values based on the Gospel.
We have also started a school for the blind and it is run at Ghaghara on a temporary basis. We are looking for a suitable location to establish it permanently at Channho.
