SOCIO-PASTORAL MINISTRY

The sisters are very much engaged too in the empowerment of women in the rural villages. They run programs to organize the women into Self Help Groups and to teach them to lead self reliant and self dependent life. It is a very challenging task though very fulfilling. They also conduct programs for the children in the villages who do not go to schools.

The province is also running a community college for girls, in a makeshift building, where the girls are given different skill trainings that fetch them jobs. These activities are focused on protecting and promoting the human dignity of persons especially the poor, the deprived, the marginalized and the excluded.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

For centuries, the Chhottanagpur region has been socially alienated, culturally suppressed and politically dominated by various external forces. This is reflected in the gross underdevelopment which is rampant in every aspect of life in this region.

We who envisage an integrated human society through our mission consider it as our responsibility to make meaningful interventions in the areas of our apostolate in order to promote a society based Gospel values. Women being the most affected in this unjust social set up, our interventions are chiefly oriented to women empowerment. We carry out this ministry in a major way at Channho, Ghaghara, Kudra, Amda, Dantri, BodhGaya,Purnea, etc.

We give expressions to this ministry through:

  • Formation SHGs and promotion of IGPs leading to economic self-reliance
  • Organizing seminars, camps and training on various social issues
  • Awareness-building campaigns on various government welfare schemes and people's rights
  • Legal aid
  • Non-formal education for adults and children
  • Vocational training for the school dropouts (girls)
  • Care of the differently-abled children
  • Prison ministry.
