WELCOME TO RANCHI PROVINCE

LIFE AND GROWTH OF THE RANCHI PROVINCE

In 1955 the then Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Ranchi, Most Rev. Pius Kerketta, invited Mother Mercedes to open a convent at Mahugaon which is 95 km away from Ranchi.

Thus the Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles first came to Chhotanagpur at Mahugaon in 1956.

Sr. Carissima, Justina, Hermengild, and Phillipine were the pioneers. They involved themselves in the ministry of teaching, healing, and caring of abandoned children while coping with the scarcity of resources. Through astute planning and practical managerial skills they laid a solid foundation of the great mission works in Chotanagpur.

The Ranchi Province was established in the year 1993 with 17 communities. The sisters here render service in pastoral ministry, developmental work, health care, mainstream of schools, schools for the visually challenged, deaf and dumb, hostels for the marginalized students and health care centers for the benefit of the most impoverished communities particularly in the tribal areas.
Ranchi Province consists mainly of the tribal states as of Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and M.P along with Bihar.

The SRA Sisters of Ranchi Province are working mainly among the tribal population and the scheduled caste communities and are committed to the development of these poor, vulnerable and the marginalized.

GREAT MISSIONARY ZEAL

The strength and stamina as well as the zeal and zest of the sisters in the Province have been remarkable. We are indeed inspired by our Fr. Bodewig whose Vision was to establish an entirely new congregation with an apostolate uniquely culture specific and need- based to identify itself to the people they work for.
