RETURNED TO THE LOVING ARMS OF GOD - SR LEONILLA D’ SOUZA SRA

Sr. M. Leonilla D'Souza's maiden name was Alice D'Souza. She was born on April 8, 1946, in Kolalgiri, Udupi District, Karnataka. Her father was Mr. Mathaes D'Souza, and her mother was Mrs. Theresa D'Souza. She joined the Congregation on June 14, 1965, at Goretti Convent, Kallianpur. She made her First Profession in Varanasi on January 6, 1968.

She pursued Higher Grade General Nursing, Midwifery, and a Course on Hospital Administration for Senior Health Administrators. Sr. M. Leonilla D'Souza served as a nurse and medical assistant in St. Ignatius Hospital, Honavar, Maria Giri Convent, Kuppepadav, and Goretti Hospital, Kallianpur. She demonstrated excellence as a nurse and medical assistant and was actively involved in pastoral work. She was very faithful and committed to her prayer life and never missed the daily community prayer. From 2012 she was confined to bed. During her sickness, she endured patiently all her sufferings and pain offering it to the Lord.

She breathed her last peacefully on January 31, 2024, at 11.50a.m in the presence of Sisters of the community. Her funeral was held on February 1, 2024, at Queen of Apostles Convent, Vamanjoor at 3.30 pm in the presence of her dear family members, sisters from different communities of the Province, our Lay Associates, and Parishioners from Kolalgiri and Vamanjoor Parish. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr Daniel Veigas, Episcopal Vicar for Religious in Mangalore Diocese along with Rev. Fr James D’Souza, Parish Priest of Vamanjoor Parish, and Rev. Fr. Rajesh Rosario, Sr Priya’s Brother. 

After the Mass her mortal remains were taken in procession and were laid to rest at the convent cemetery.  The funeral services of Sr Leonilla D’Souza were held on the 1st of February 2024 at 3.30 pm at Queen of Apostles Convent, Vamanjoor. We express our gratitude to God for the gift she has been to the Congregation. We pray that her soul rest in peace.
