Our Social Concern

The Social Work Centre at Charummood

The Social Work Centre at Charummood is the fruition of a long cherished dream of ours. The Centre with professional excellence coordinates the activities of all the ministries in our Province.

Many of our Communities have tailoring and embroidery centers and a bag making unit at Charummood where we provide vocational training and employment opportunities for the uplift of women and dropouts.

Nirmala Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre

Nirmala Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre at Kovilloor is a home for the less fortunate young boys and girls whom society rejects. Here sisters render gracious service. Their life at the rehabilitation centre is structured in such away that they gradually get in to the main stream of the society.

The centre is open also for the children of leprosy and HIV/AIDS affected parents, orphans, semi-orphans and Tsunami victims who have no one to care for them. At present there are 56 boys and 48 girls attending the regular School and other twenty men and women are also given shelter in the Centre.

We accelerate the growth of their self-respect and self confidence by getting them involved in fruitful activities like weaving and tailoring. We aim at their integrated development, giving impetus to their social, cultural, psychological and spiritual development.

Free Boarding and Orphanage at Charummood

6th December 2004 was a dark day as the whole world was alarmed by Tsunami. The experience in the tsunami camps inspired to begin a new venture - a free boarding at Charummood for the children of Tsunami victims.

Currently St. Joseph's home shelters 47 girls studying from std 1st to 12th. Through the education and the holistic formation given to them we light the lamp of hope in their lives and enable them to make their future bright. St. Joseph's home which we began in 1955 continue to function with 12 inmates who are fully orphans. Among them 8 are differentially able and cannot be settled and the others yet to be settled.

The hostel at Kaithapoil provides facilities for college students and working women. We facilitate their growth, instilling in them religious tolerance, morality and discipline. What is worthy of mention at this juncture is that we provide free accommodation and education for tribal girls in order to activate the development of the marginalized.
